First contested in 1950 in honor of
two brothers who had been killed in the World War II, the event
has been held every year since inception at Shannopin Country Club and is traditionally held the
first Friday in August. The championship is an 18-hole event, Chapman
format, with at
least one brother being a member of a WPGA Member Club.
The team of Bud and Dick Semple, whom the the Association's
Century Foursomes Championship is named, won the inaugural
event. The tandem of Chick and Rob Wagner have been dominate in this
championship, having won the title a record ten times. In 2005,
the Wagner team passed the team of Jack and George Benson (7
wins) for most titles. This year also saw the steak of
consecutive entries end. Dick and Frank Fuhrer, Jr. had played
in the event every year since the first, a record of 55 events.
The Fuhrer team won the event in 1960.
