The Western Pennsylvania Golf
Association conducts two inter-club competitions every year.
The Jamison Cup is open to the winners of inter-club leagues
that contain at least four member clubs of the association. The
Senior Inter-Club is open all member clubs of the association.
Jamison Cup
The Jamison Cup or its equivalent
has been conducted for almost a century. It is held in late
September or early October. The 2005 Jamison Cup will be hosted
by Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville, PA on Thursday,
September 22.
Format
The Jamison Cup is a 36-hole
one-day event. Each club is represented by five players in each
round with the four lowest 18-hole scores counting for the
team. Clubs may change team members between the morning and
afternoon rounds.
Members of the winning team
receive trophies. The player who shoots the lowest 36-hole
score is also awarded a trophy and earns an exemption from
qualifying for the next year’s West Penn Amateur.
Leagues that contain eight or
more members of the association will have their first and second
place teams invited. If a league is won by a non-member of the
association, the highest placed association member club will be
invited.
In the past, the WPGA has held an
open qualifier for clubs not affiliated with a league. In order
to hold this qualifier, at least four clubs must inform us of an
interest by August 15. The qualifier will be an 18-hole
qualifier to be held in early or mid-September.
If enough leagues are formed that
it becomes impracticable to conduct a 36-hole event in one day,
the Inter-Club Committee may decide to change the format or hold
pre-qualifying events in the future.
The charge for the Jamison Cup is
based on the bill the WPGA receives from the host club. The
bill will be divided by the number of clubs competing and sent
to each club. Some clubs choose to pay this while others bill
the players on the team. In general the cost runs somewhere
between $450 and $550 per team.

league results and standings on our website (http://www.wpga.org).
Please send the results as they occur and we will publish them.
Also, once a league has determined a winner, please inform us as
soon as possible so that we may get the invitation to the
Jamison Cup to them.
Senior Inter-Club
The Senior Inter-Club was founded
in 2003. The format consists of 4 players from the same club
playing 18 holes with the three best 18-hole scores counting.
Starting in 2005, the minimum age has been dropped from 55 to
50. The championship will be hosted by Oak Tree Country Club in
West Middlesex in 2005.
Teams can register by going to
the WPGA website (http://www.wpga.org),
clicking on the 2005 Championship Schedule and going to the
Senior Inter-Club page found there. You may register online or
by printing the entry form and mailing it to the WPGA offices.
The cost of entry in the Senior Inter-Club is $300 per team
($75/man).
Two teams from a club may enter,
although they should be aware that if the event fills, the
second teams will be the first one eliminated in order to allow
as many clubs as possible to participate. |
