This notice serves as confirmation for West Penn Brothers Championship on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA.
Please note the starting times and pairings. The starting tee will be hole #1. Additional information will be distributed prior to the start of the competition.
Format - 18 Holes of Stroke Play, Chapman Format
Gross/Net - There will be gross and net competition for the championship. Teams placing in both categories will be awarded only one prize of the higher amount of the two. Teams with a player/players void of a verifiable GHIN handicap will only be able to compete in the gross division of the championship.
Chapman Stroke Play - Two players play as partners, each playing from the teeing ground and each playing his partner's ball for the second shot. After the second shot, partners select the ball with which they wish to score, and play that ball alternately to complete the hole. Allowance - The partner with the lower Course Handicap receives 60 percent of his Course Handicap. The partner with the higher Course Handicap receives 40 percent of his Course Handicap. Add the percentage allowances together before rounding, then round off the total with .5 or more rounded upward.
Tee Markers - All play for the Gross Competition is from the BLUE tee markers. Additional tees will be available for those teams wishing to compete from the shorter tees. Teams that choose to play from a shorter set of tees will only be eligible for the net trophy and net prizes.
Playoff - In the event of a tie for gross champion, a hole by hole playoff will take place on holes to be determined by the Committee.
Practice - Practice rounds are available, and must be made in advance, by contacting Shannopin CC at 412-761-2900. The professional is Eric Teasdale. Practice range balls are complimentary the day of the competition.
Transportation/Caddies - Golf carts are permitted and are included in your entry fee. Players may bring their own caddies if they choose to walk.
Evacuation Plan - In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation players should return immediately to the Clubhouse on holes #1,2,3,4,5,9,10,16,17 & 18. Players on holes #6,7,8,11,12,13,14 & 15 should proceed to the Maintenance Building.
Footwear - METAL CLEATS ARE PROHIBITED. THE PENALTY IS DISQUALIFICATION.
Food - The WPGA provides a continental breakfast and lunch for players. All other food and beverage charges are the responsibility of the player.
