This notice serves as confirmation for West Penn Brothers Championship on Friday, July 29, 2015 at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA. The starting tee will be hole #1 and additional information will be distributed on the starting tee prior to the start of the competition.
Format - 18 Holes of Stroke Play, Chapman Format
CHAPMAN OR PINEHURST STROKE PLAY
In Chapman or Pinehurst stroke play, two players play as partners, each playing from the teeing ground and each playing his partner’s ball for the second shot. After the second shot, partners select the ball with which they wish to score, and play that ball alternately to complete the hole.
Allowance for Net Competition
The partner with the lower Course Handicap receives 60 percent of his Course Handicap. The partner with the higher Course Handicap receives 40 percent of his Course Handicap. Add the percentage allowances together before rounding, then round off the total with .5 or more rounded upward.
First stroke-Each contestant may hit a provisional ball for his ball which may be lost or out of bounds. All other strokes-During the alternate stroke portion of each hole, if a side elects to play a provisional ball, it shall be played by the partner of the player whose ball may be lost or out of bounds.
Tee Markers - All play for the Gross Competition is from the BLUE WPGA tee markers. Teams are permitted to play from a shorter set of tees but will only be eligible for the net trophy and net prizes and must inform the committee to which set of teeing grounds they played before returning their scorecard.
Gross/Net - There is a gross and net competition for the championship. Teams placing in both categories will be awarded only one prize of the higher amount of the two. Teams with a player/players void of a verifiable handicap will only be able to compete in the gross division of the championship.
Practice - Practice rounds are available and are at the discretion of the golf shop. Practice rounds must be made in advance, by contacting Shannopin CC at 412-761-2900 and are at the expense of the player. The professional is Eric Teasdale. Practice range balls are complimentary the day of the competition.
Transportation/Caddies - Golf carts are permitted and are included in your entry fee. Players may bring their own caddies if they choose to walk.
Evacuation Plan - In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation all players should return immediately to the Clubhouse.
Footwear - METAL CLEATS ARE PROHIBITED. THE PENALTY IS DISQUALIFICATION.
Playoff - In the event of a tie for gross champion, a hole by hole playoff will take place on holes to be determined by the Committee.
Food - The WPGA provides coffee, juices, fruits and breakfast pastries and lunch for players. All other food and beverage charges are the responsibility of the player.
