97th Western Pennsylvania Junior Championship

Wednesday, July 5, 2017 - Hannastown Golf Club

This notice serves as confirmation for the 97th Western Pennsylvania Junior Championship on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg, PA. The competition is 36 holes and the field is 78 players. Starting tees will be hole #1 & #10.

Hannastown does not have a full swing practice facility. Contestants should plan accordingly. Hannastown does offer a pitching/chipping area and a practice green for warm up. Practice ranges near Hannastown include Totteridge Golf Club and Mt. Odin Golf Course. Players may bring their own shag balls to warm up on the area of practice at Hannastown.

Note to Parents & Guardians: A parent, stepparent, or guardian may not serve as a caddie. Spectator carts are not permitted for use during the championship. Lunch is provided for the players only. Spectators and caddies should plan accordingly and be prepared to pay for any food & beverage provisions. Parents, spectators and caddies who wish to eat lunch with players should inform a staff member at Hannastown and be prepared to pay for charges via cash or credit card.

The winner gains exemption to the West Penn Amateur Championship for the next two years.
The winner is awarded 5 AJGA Performance Stars; Top 5 is awarded 1 AJGA Performance Star.
Top 3 & ties gains invitation to C.R. Miller Memorial Junior Match Play Invitational.

Format: 36 Holes of Stroke Play. Play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf In the event of a tie, a hole by hole playoff will take place on holes to be determined by the Committee.

Tee Markers: All play is from the BLUE WPGA tee markers. The course will play roughly 6,550 yards depending on conditions and yardages will vary from round to round.

Pace of Play: The maximum allowable time will be four hours and twenty minutes (4:20).

Practice: Practice rounds can be scheduled by contacting the golf shop at 724-836-8643. The PGA Golf Professional is Craig Mankins. Practice round fees are the responsibility of the player, must be pre-arranged, and are at the discretion of the club. Practice rounds will be at a cost of $42 and are available on the afternoons of June 29, July 1 and July 3.

Transportation/Caddies: Players and caddies are required to walk for the championship. Players may bring their own caddies if they choose. Caddies must walk in performance of their duties. A parent, stepparent, or guardian may not serve as a caddie. Golf bag push carts are permitted for the championship.

Evacuation Plan: In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation, all players should seek the nearest shelter on course, return to the clubhouse or proceed to the maintenance building immediately, until the committee can evacuate the course. Note: A suspension for a dangerous situation will be signaled by one prolonged air horn note. All other types of suspension will be signaled by three consecutive air horn notes, repeated. Resumption of play will be signaled by two short air horn notes, repeated.


Food: The WPGA provides lunch for players only. All other food and beverage charges are the responsibility of the player. Lunch will be available by cash or credit card for those accompanying the players and caddies.

Lodging: Lodging of various price ranges can be found in the Greensburg area.

Spectator Info: No spectator carts will be permitted for the qualifying round without pre-approved ADA verification. Please contact the WPGA office for ADA guidelines.
