New Boys Championship trophies add luster

The Boys Championship began in 1977 with winners like Kurt Beck, Arnold Cutrell, John Aber, and Nathan Smith. This trophy is named after Skip Potts, son of former WPGA Executive Director, Jim Potts. Skip Potts was an outstanding high school

athlete who collapsed and died during a basketball game.

The 13 and Younger division began in 1996, and the trophy is named for former PGA Tour winner, James Simons, Butler, whose junior career included qualifying for the 1967 US Open at age 16. Simons finished fifth in the 1971 Open Championship at Merion as an amateur.

Due to the generosity of Mark and Kimberly Miller, McMurray, new

trophies for both competitions were recently purchased. They were purchased in Scotland and fit well with the Association's traditional awards for its championships. For example, the Open, Amateur, and Junior Championship trophies range in age from 83 to 105 years old. Out thanks again to the Millers for their support of junior golf.
