Michelle Wie and 81 others play for two spots at USGA APL Sectional
June 01, 2005
Jeff Rivard, Executive Director (contact)

A total of 82 contestants will compete for two qualifying spots in the USGA Amateur Public Links Sectional at Cedarbrook GC’s Gold Course, Belle Vernon, on Tuesday, June 14.  Headlining the group is 2003 USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links champion, Michelle Wie, Honolulu, Hawaii.

The strong field includes the following who have previously qualified for the APL or other USGA competitions—Jim Augustine, Peters Township; Mark Cimarolli, Upper St. Clair; Sean Dove, Bulger; Chris Gambacurta, Broad Top City; Mike Larkin, Gibsonia; Richard Mottura, Vandergrift; and Tim Murphy, Greensburg.  Wie is in the same grouping with Larkin and Murphy.  The contestants hail from five states and Ontario, Canada, with most being from Western Pennsylvania.  The field of 82 is the largest locally in recent history.

The qualifiers will advance to the Championship to be played at Shaker Run Golf Club, Lebanon, Ohio, near Cincinnati, July 11-16.

The Official-in-Charge for this Section is Rick Masten, Pittsburgh, a member of the USGA Public Links Championship Committee.
