The WPGA Championship Committee has selected Ben Rathfon, Allegheny College, as the recipient of the Frank Fuhrer, III, Award, as the top college player in the Association during the 2004-05 season. Rathfon, who graduated on May

Ben Rathfon, Brookville and Allegheny College

Rathfon is a four time NCAA Division III All-American, including a 3rd team selection this season, and an All Region player. He won four tournaments this season, recorded ten finishes in the top ten in twelve events, and recorded a 75.3 scoring average with a low round of 68. He was named the North Coast Athletic Conference's Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Previous winners were Justin Smith, Minnesota in '01-'02 and '03-'04; and Matt Guyton, Clarion, '02-'03. The award is named after Frank Fuhrer, III, an All-American and All ACC selection during his career at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, 1978-82. Fuhrer also won the 1981 Western Amateur, and was a member of the 1981 Walker Cup team. During the 1981 season, he was ranked #2 among amateurs in the USA. Fuhrer played the PGA Tour for several seasons, and has won six different WPGA championships, eleven titles in all.
