Century Foursomes renamed

The Fred Brand Foursomes started in 1954,
and it's been the Association's most popular partners competition.
In 1996, a Century Division was begun for teams with combined ages
exceeding 100. In 2004, the Brand Century Foursomes was first played
at its own site, Allegheny, rather than at Longue Vue, home of the
Fred Brand for over two decades. Allegheny was the previous Brand
location for just as long.
In a recent vote, the Executive Committee approved renaming the Fred
Brand Century Foursomes to the Semple Brothers Century Foursomes.
This designation honors Bud and Richard Semple, who won four of the
first eight Brands, 1955-62. They also won the inaugural WPGA
Brothers in 1950. The Semples were a formidable team for decades
winning many area invitationals and other four-balls. Harton S.
"Bud" Semple, Allegheny, was USGA President, 1974-75, and qualified
for several USGA Amateur Championships. His brother Richard won the
1957 West Penn Amateur among his numarous golf achievements. Both
won club championships at Allegheny as well.
