John W. "Jack" Brand, a legendary name in Western Pennsylvania golf, died in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 27, at the age of 87.

Jack was the son of longtime Allegheny CC golf professional, Fred.  His brother Fred, Jr., who passed away in 1998, was a USGA Executive Committee member who received the 1997 Bob Jones Award.  Jack Brand attended Penn State University, where he captained the 1941 golf team, as had his older brother before him.

An Association Centennial History Maker, Jack won four WPGA Four-Ball titles, three with fellow Nittany Lion and Oakmont member, Jack Mahaffey. He and brother Fred founded the popular Fred Brand Foursomes Championship in 1954. Jack also was deeply involved in organizing the game, serving as President of both the Pennsylvania Golf Association and WPGA (1966, 1974). Long a member at Oakmont, he chaired or co-chaired the 1962 & 1973 US Opens, 1969 US Amateur, and 1978 PGA Championship. In addition he served the USGA as a longtime member of their Sectional Affairs Committee.
