The
Scholarship Committee of the Western Pennsylvania Golf
Association has selected four (4) new students to be recipients
of WPGA Scholarships. The new students are:
Jared
Clark, caddie at St.
Clair Country Club, from Bethel Park High School, who will be
attending the University of Michigan in the fall. Mr. Clark is
the first recipient of the West Penn / Evans Scholarship. The
West Penn / Evans Scholarship is co-sponsored by the WPGA and
the Evans Scholarship Foundation, Golf, Il. Mr. Clark will
receive full tuition, housing and other benefits.
Courtney Jones,
caddie and bag room attendant at Ligonier Country Club and
Laurel Valley Golf Club, will be transferring to the Penn State
University main campus in the fall to enter their Professional
Golf Management program. He will receive $3000 towards his
tuition. Mr. Jones currently attends Penn State University
Altoona and went to Ligonier Valley High School
Ryan
Kerila, caddie at
Totteridge Golf Club from Greensburg – Salem High School, will
attend Robert Morris University. He will receive $3000 towards
his tuition.
Michael Muir, caddie
at Sunnehanna Country Club from Conemaugh Township High School,
will attend the University of Pittsburgh. He will receive $3000
towards his tuition.
These
four students will join seven (7) others in the program for the
2007-2008 academic year. They are: Jodi Blumer, Diamond Run,
Clarion; Lance Catterall, Sewickley/ Shannopin, Penn State;
Byarn Cairns, Ligonier / Laurel Valley, Robert Morris; Robert
Huth, South Hills, Notre Dame; Wesley Kendle, Longue Vue, Penn
State; David McCleary, Treasure Lake, Pittsburgh; Andrew
Sheaffer, Edgewood, Penn State.
The WPGA
Scholarship Fund has given more than 600 students scholarships
since 1941. Any employee with two or more years of service at a
WPGA Member Club may apply.
The
Evans Scholars Foundation was founded in 1930. More than
820 caddies have attended college under the Evans Scholars
program.
