Nathan Smith Wins West Penn
Amateur, Joins Two Exclusive WPGA Clubs

Nathan Smith, Pittsburgh, overcame a
two-shot deficit going into the final round to catch Mike Van
Sickle, Gibsonia, at the 107th West Penn Amateur contested at
Sunnehanna Country Club June 25-26 and then defeated him in a
playoff with a birdie at the first hole. By doing so,
Smith gained two historical distinctions: the first player to
win the Tournament of Champions, Mid-Amateur and Amateur in the
same year, and the second player to win 7 different WPGA
Championships.In addition
to the three listed above, Smith's titles are the C.R. Miller
(Junior) Match Play, WPGA Junior, Fred Brand Foursomes (with
Sean Knapp), the Four-Ball (with Scott Phillis).
Marshall Marraccini, has also won
seven different WPGA Championships: Amateur, Open, Mid-Amateur,
Club Champions, Fred Brand, Four-Ball and Father/Son.
Smith was previously tied with
Frank Fuhrer, III and John Jones with six different wins.
Fuhrer's six are the C.R. Miller, Junior, Amateur, Open,
Mid-Amateur and Fred Brand, while Jones has won the Junior,
Open, Mid-Amateur, Father & Son, Four-Ball and Fred Brand.
