Robert Rohanna, Waynesburg, advanced to the quarterfinals in the USGA Amateur Public Links Championships, at Catigny GC, Wheaton, Illinois, before losing to Colt Knost, Dallas, 2-up.  Rohanna, a Penn State golfer heading into his senior year, was All Big-Ten in the ’06-’07 season.  He was co-recipient of the Frank Fuhrer, III, Award, given to the area’s outstanding collegiate golfer, sharing the honor with Mike VanSickle, Gibsonia, a Marquette University standout.  Rohanna also won the award in 2005-06, and has won the WPGA Public Links championship twice in 2004 and 2006.

Rohanna qualified at the Donegal Highlands Sectional for the APL with 69-66—135, then advanced to match play at Catigny with 73-73—146, drawing the 21st seed in the match play bracket.  He defeated Brent Long, Carthage, TN, 1-up, Cameron Knight, Tampa, 6 & 5, and Christian Raynor, Atlanta, 2-up, in his quest for the title.  Rohanna’s showing is the best since 1969 in the APL, when Erie’s Joe Andron at 294, tied for second at Downing Municipal GC, two strokes behind the winner John Jackson,  during the APL’s stroke play years—1967-74.
