The Sectional Qualifiers from Nemacolin Woodlands Resort's Mystic Rock Course for the USGA Senior Amateur, John Benson, Punxsutawney, and Bob Allshouse, Greensburg, both qualified for match play in the Championship, played at Flint Hills GC, Andover, Kansas, near Wichita, September 1-6.

Playing well in the second round enabled both to advance into the brackets. Benson shot 76-70--146, tied for 25th, and Allshouse recorded 77-72--149, tied for 50th, two strokes safe from the playoff number of 151.

Benson lost his first round match to David Lind, Burr Ridge, Illinois, 5&4. Lind is a two-time runner-up in the USGA Mid-Amateur, 1987 to Jay Siegel, and 1992 to Danny Yates. Allshouse lost in extra holes, bowing on the 19th to Jim Butler, Fort Madison, Iowa.
