Arnold Cutrell won his third Jay Sigel Match Play Championship conducted by the Pennsylvania Golf Association, while Paul Schlachter won his first in the senior division of the Sigel.  Both were played at Stonewall GC in Elverson, near Philadelphia, on May 10-11.

Cutrell beat Eric Williams in the final, 5 & 4, while Schlachter defeated Tom Bartolacci, 3 & 1, in his finals.

Other area players in the Sigel were Frank Fairman, Punxsutawney; Adam Hofmann, Oakmont; Sean Knapp, St. Jude/Longue Vue; and David Brown, St. Clair.  All but Fairman won their first round matches and lost in the second.

Area senior players were Schlachter, Ed Strickler, Huntingdon; Joe Cordaro, Nevillewood; Don Erickson, III, DuBois; John Benson, Punxsutawney, and Bill Baloh, Hannastown.  Erickson and Benson joined Schlachter in the semi-finals, where Benson, the defending champion, lost to Bartolacci, while Schlachter defeated Erickson.  This was Schlachter’s seventh state title, and his first senior match play.
