Sean Knapp, Oakmont, shot 69-70—139, edging Artie Fink, Jr., Altoona, who recorded 71-69—140, at Scotch Valley near Altoona.  On the final hole Fink’s six foot birdie putt was deep into the hole and spun out.  The defending champion of 2006 and 2007, Nathan Smith, Pittsburgh, was third with 70-72—142.

It was Knapp’s sixth Mid-Amateur title and his first since 1999 when Knapp won at Fox Chapel.  Knapp has been close four times in the Mid-Amateur this decade with runner-up finishes in 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2007, losing in playoffs in ’00 and ’03.

With 2008 victories in the Fred Brand Foursomes and the Mid-Amateur, Knapp’s overall total of WPGA titles is 28, fourteen partners victories and fourteen individual trophies.
