Knapp Wins 6TH Mid-Amateur

Sean Knapp,
Oakmont, shot 69-70—139, edging Artie Fink, Jr., Altoona, who
recorded 71-69—140, at Scotch Valley near Altoona. On the final
hole Fink’s six foot birdie putt was deep into the hole and spun
out. The defending champion of 2006 and 2007, Nathan Smith,
Pittsburgh, was third with 70-72—142.
It was Knapp’s
sixth Mid-Amateur title and his first since 1999 when Knapp won
at Fox Chapel. Knapp has been close four times in the
Mid-Amateur this decade with runner-up finishes in 2000, 2001,
2003, and 2007, losing in playoffs in ’00 and ’03.
With 2008
victories in the Fred Brand Foursomes and the Mid-Amateur,
Knapp’s overall total of WPGA titles is 28, fourteen partners
victories and fourteen individual trophies.
