Mike VanSickle,
Wexford, the 2007-2008 Frank Fuhrer, III, Collegiate Player of
the Year, shot 69-69-69-67—274, in the Southern Amateur, July
16-19. He tied for first place with Kyle Stanley, Gig Harbor,
WA, and lost the playoff. Stanley holed a 45-foot birdie put on
the first extra hole to beat VanSickle and Judson Eustaquio,
Lake Worth, FL.
The only
golfer with all his rounds under 70, VanSickle holed a 20-foot
birdie putt on the 72nd hole to reach the playoff.
The Southern Amateur is regarded as one of the top ten amateur
competitions in the country.
