The C.R. Miller Match Play
Invitational was started by Richie Miller in honor of
his father and was played at Fox Chapel Golf Club (their
home club) from its inception until 1994 when its
administration was given to the WPGA. |
Great matches were played throughout the tournament. A first round match between Donny Lewis,
Wexford, and Brandon Pompeani, Aliquippa, ended when Lewis made
a birdie on the 21st hole. A second round match between Geoffrey Locher of McMurray beat
WPGA Junior Champion, Ryan Prokay of Grove City, 2 up in the
second round. Prokay recorded a score of 71 in the afternoon
round while Locher shot 69. Both semi-final matches went extra
holes. Renwick outlasted Christopher Resnik of Venetia, making birdie on the 20th hole, and in the
longest match in tournament history, Jones
defeated Locher on the 24th hole.
