Local golfers finish well in national events

In the U.S. Senior Challenge held at Springfield Country Club in Ohio, Bob Allshouse, Greensburg, finished second to Chuck Parsons with rounds of 71-71-73--217. And in the Super Seniors division, Johnstown's Phil Saylor posted rounds of 78-72-78--228 to finish sixth.

At Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, Frank Fairman of Punxsutawney teamed with Nathan Smith, Pittsburgh, to win the Nicklaus Invitational with rounds of 69-69-151--289. The Fairman/Smith team won by nine strokes. The first two rounds were Four-Ball with the final round having both players counting toward the total. In the Senior division, John Benson, Punxsutawney, teamed with Ronnie Tumlin to capture the title with scores of 69-70-69--208 to win by seven strokes. All three rounds were Four-Ball.
