Steve Wheatcroft, Washingon, shot 67-69-65-68—269,
at Hombre GC, Panama City, Florida, in the second
stage of PGA Tour Qualifying, advancing to the
finals. His 19-under par total was his second
medalist performance in tour qualifying this
session. He also won the first stage at Martin
Downs CC’s Osprey Creek Course, Palm City, Florida. Wheatcroft secured his PGA Tour card in 2007, tying
for seventh in qualifying, but did not retain
playing privileges.
Jon Mills, Indiana, recorded 69-72-70-70—281, at
Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville,
Florida, to move on as well. He was tied for 15th,
and that group was “right on the number.” Mills
played the PGA Tour this season, making nearly
$500,000, but a series of missed cuts this Fall put
him back into qualifying school. Mills also played
the PGA Tour in 2006, and recorded top ten on the
Nationwide Tour’s money list in 2005 and 2007
qualifying him for the PGA Tour in 2006 and 2008.
Wheatcroft and Mills advance to LaQuinta,
California, at PGA West, in the Palm Springs area.
They will play three rounds each at the Nicklaus
Tournament and TPC Stadium Courses, December 3-8.
At
Deerwood GC in Kingwood, Texas, Michael Sim,
Wexford, recorded a final round 76 resulting in not
advancing to the finals. His 71-68-71-76—286,
missed the qualifying score by two strokes.
