Area collegians gain honors

In addition to Mike Van Sickle's outstanding year at Marquette, two other area golfers have distinguished themselves this season.

Doug Mehall, Saint Vincent, won the President's Athletic Conference Championship at Oak Tree with 72-70-142.  He also won the St. Vincent's Invitational at Latrobe CC with a 70.

John Popeck, a Washington, PA, native, who plays for Maryland, won the Rehoboth Spring Invitational, and has recorded seven scores of par or better his freshman year. In addition to his win, he has recorded two top-ten finishes. Popeck was one of two first year golfers recently named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All Conference First Team.
