2009 US Open--Farren
qualifies; Wheatcroft misses by one

Sean Farren, Locust
Valley, NY, qualified for this year's US Open, shooting
68-70--138 at the Metropolitan New York Sectional, securing
one of four spots. The Sectional was played at Old Oaks CC
& Century CC. Farren, formerly an assistant professional at
Oakmont and the head professional at Totteridge, is now the
professional at The Creek Club, Locust Valley, NY. This is
the first time Farren, the 2003 West Penn Open champion, has
qualified for the Open.
Steve Wheatcroft, Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Washington,
PA, missed by one stroke with 72-68--140 at the Woodmont CC,
Sectional, Rockville, MD. Wheatcroft is playing on the
Nationwide Tour this season.
Four area players competed in Columbus, OH, and did not
qualify--Gordon Vietmeier (142), John Popeck (146), Robert
Rohanna (150), and Justin Moose (151)--at Brookside G&CC and
The Lakes G&CC. The playoff score was 136.
At Dayton's NCR CC, Dave Brown with 140 and Sean Knapp at
141 played better, but the playoff score there was also 136.
At Lake Nona G&CC, Travis Dickson did not qualify, recording
153.
All of these Sectionals took place on Monday, June 8.
