Brookville – Nine days after the playoff for the WPGA Junior Championship was postponed due to bad weather, Darren Simons of St. Marys defeated Punxsutawney’s Easton Renwick on the third playoff hole at Pinecrest Country Club to win the 89th Championship. Garrett Browning of Coraopolis joined the playoff. All three completed the twenty-seven hole competition with a score of 113.

Renwick and Simons each birdied the first playoff hole to continue. Renwick putted first and sank a 30-foot downhill putt. Simons matched Renwick’s downhill putt with one from 15 feet to continue the playoff. Putting last, Browning missed his putt from 12 feet.

After both making par at the second, the playoff returned to the first hole. Simons again holed a downhill putt, this one from 30 feet, and when Renwick’s putt from 15 feet missed, Simons claimed the Championship. This is Simons’ first WPGA win.

The rain-shortened Championship was conducted on June 17 at The Club at Shadow Lakes in Aliquippa with Browning, Renwick and Simons completing the twenty-seven hole event with a score of 113. Defending Champion Ryan Prokay of Grove City, and Sewickley’s Eric Urda, finished outside the playoff by one stroke at 114.
