When Nathan Smith edged collegians Nathan Sutherland (Miami, Ohio) and John Popeck (Maryland) at Allegheny to win the West Penn Amateur, the Brookville native reached two more benchmarks.  He joins a group of nine golfers who have won three or more Amateurs, and a group of six who have won three Amateurs in a row. The six players on both lists include three USGA champions, Arnold Palmer, W.C. Fownes, and Smith, plus three other players who dominated their eras--Sean Knapp, Bob Reilly, and John Birmingham.
