Next year's West Penn Amateur and West Penn Open, the two
competitions that resulted in the Association's being
established in 1899, have different dates but top notch
sites.
The Amateur will be played July 5-6 at Sewickley Heights GC.
The championship was last played there in 1983 when Marshall
Marraccini prevailed over Ed Vietmeier and Rocco Mediate.
Marraccini's total of
228--76-76-76, is the highest score to win the Amateur in
recent times. The Amateur is exchanging dates in 2010 with
the Frank Fuhrer Invitational.
The Open is scheduled for St. Clair CC, August 23-24. Last
contested at the club in 1986, the winner was Frank Fuhrer,
III.
The Amateur will have its usual set of four qualifying
rounds, and qualifying will also be scheduled for the Open.
