Erie's Ron Coleman made the permanent trophy engraver's
job easier by winning his third straight WPGA Public
Links title at Cranberry Highlands. Coleman's 67-66--133
is the second best total in the championship, eclipsed
only by Robert Rohanna's 67-64--131 at Everett's Down
River GC in 2006. Coleman beat Altoona's Artie Fink by
five strokes as he totaled 138 on 70-68. Fink, who won
the Public Links in 2005, opened his second round with
an 8 on the tenth hole, but then rallied with five
straight threes, three birdies and two pars, on his way
to the runner-up slot.
Coleman joined Nathan Smith, who earlier this season won
his third straight West Penn Amateur at Allegheny.
Coleman recorded eight birdies and an eagle over two
rounds, offset by only three bogies in his strong
showing at the fescue grass bordered Cranberry
Highlands. Few if any escaped without a double bogey or
worse.
