In a playoff at Sunnehanna, Sean Knapp defeated three
others, Joe Corsi, Hannastown, Gregor Meyer, Pittsburgh
Field Club, and defending champion William Smith,
Chambersburg, to win the 16th Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur. The
four tied at 143, three over par. Altoona's Artie Fink was
next at 144 with 74-70.
Knapp earlier this season won the Pennsylvania Public Links,
while Nathan Smith won the Jay Sigel Match Play and the
Pennsylvania Amateur. Justin Smith won the Open, Paul
Schlachter won the Senior Match Play, Dave DeNezza won the
Senior Am Stroke Play, and Margaret Pentrack won the Women's
Amateur. Golfers from Western Pennsylvania won every state
title this season except the junior, the most impressive
showing in history.
