recently made his first appearance in amajor at the
PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler,
Wisconsin, birdied the final hole to post 5-under
139 and claim runner-up honors alone.
Brown was awarded Low Amateur honors after finishing T-3rd
with Robert Rohanna at 4-under 140.
Rohanna won his first event as a professional earlier this
month in the Pennsylvania Open after a stellar collegiate
career at Penn State. During his stay he was awarded the
WPGA’s Frank Fuhrer III Award for Collegiate Player of the
Year in 2006 and 2007.
Shields, McClellan, Rohanna, Bob Friend and Chad Warmbein
were tied at 2-under 70 after the first round. The stroke
play cut for the low 50 and ties fell at 77 on the 6,980
yard layout.
Friend finished fifth at 3-under 141 and Warmbein, playing
in his second event as a professional, finished T-9th at
4-over 146 with Erik Bertrand and Nick Kirsch after posting
a final round score of 76.
Ohio State sophomore and 2010 Frank Fuhrer III Award
recipient Rachel Rohanna finished T-49 on rounds of 75 and
81 for a 12-over 156. Rohanna recently earned medalist
honors in the US Women’s Amateur at Charlotte Country Club,
and broke the championship's 18-hole scoring record with her
first round score of 7-under 65.
University of Maryland golfer John Popeck also received the
award for Collegiate Player of the Year. Popeck finished
T-22nd at 5-over 149.
After the trophies were awarded and the crowd had dispersed
Shields was providing instruction to a young golfer near the
practice putting green.
