Roy Vucinich of Moon Township captured his fifth West Penn Open Championship over a period spanning four decades. He shot rounds of 69-69 for a two under total of 138. His previous victories came in 1977-78, 1985, and 1993. The victory ties the record for the most championships held by Jock Hutchison (1909-10, 1913-15) and Perry DelVecchio (1927-28, 1932, 1934-35).

Finishing four shots behind was Gordon Vietmeier (68-74--142), followed at 144 by first round leader Nathan Smith (67-77), and Bob Friend (71-73). Defending champion Steven Wheatcroft finished fifth at 145 (72-73). Smith earned low amateur honors.

Vucinich, a regular on the Senior PGA Tour, was a long-time professional at Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley.
