In 1965, two area golfers won USGA championships, a rare occurrence. Bob Kiersky, Oakmont, won the Senior Amateur at Fox Chapel, and Jim Masserio, Duquesne, won the Junior Amateur at Wilmington CC, (DE). Sean Brannan, Hollidaysburg, reached the semi-final last week in the Junior Amateur Championship, at Boone Valley GC, Augusta, MO, near St. Louis. Brannan lost his semi-final match in extra holes, and he recorded the best showing in the junior by an area golfer since Masserio’s victory.
