Field set for West Penn Amateur

The 78th and final player in the West Penn Amateur field was Brookville’s C.G. Mercatoris, IV, whose victory in the Tri-State Amateur on June 17 at Cranberry Highlands gave him exempt status. He is part of a strong field of 78 for the Championship to be played at Bedford Springs, June 23-24.

The field is led by defending champion, Nathan Smith, Pittsburgh, also winner of the 2003 USGA Mid-Amateur Championship, and Sean Knapp, Oakmont, who won six straight Amateurs, 1998-2003. Knapp won the West Penn Mid-Amateur last month for the sixth time. Other top players include.
