A field of 160 players, twenty more than last year, have entered this year's West Penn Amateur Championship, to be played July 5-6 at Sewickley Heights Golf Club. 125 players will compete in five qualifying rounds, and 43 of them will join 35 exempt players in the championship.
Qualifying rounds begin on June 15 at Rolling Hills in McMurray, followed by The Country Club (Meadville) on June 16, Kane on June 17, Iron Masters near Altoona on June 22, and Shannopin on June 25.
The starting field includes the two dominant amateurs of this era - three time 2007-09 defending champion Nathan Smith and seven-time champion Sean Knapp. Other top players in the field include the 2009-10 Frank Fuhrer Award winner (outstanding college player), John Popeck, Washington, and Miami of Ohio standout Nathan Sutherland, Oakmont.
