MacWhinnie and Wheatcroft fail to advance

Two former WPGA champions, Bobby MacWhinnie, Charlotte, NC, who won WPGA Junior Championships, 1999 & 2000, and Steve Wheatcroft, Jacksonville, FL, 2004 West Penn Open winner, did not advance to the final stage of PGA Qualifying Schools.

MacWhinnie, a Pittsburgh native who played collegiate golf at Maryland, shot 72-70-76-75 - 293, in the Second Stage at TPC Craig Ranch, McKinney, TX, finishing 60th. The top twenty and ties moved on. MacWhinnie played the Nationwide Tour this season.

Wheatcroft, a Washington native who played at Indiana University, once making the All Big-Ten team, recorded 75-74-73-75 - 297 in the Second Stage at Hombre GC, Panama City, FL, tying for 54th. The top nineteen and ties advanced. Wheatcroft will play on the Nationwide Tour in 2011, based on his PGA Tour showing this year with over $460,000 in winnings.

Both competitions were November 17-20.

Jon Mills, Indiana, who finished 33rd on the Nationwide Tour money list, will play in the Final Stage of PGA Tour Qualifying in December. He is exempt due to his finish on the Nationwide money list. The top 25 on the Nationwide Tour received PGA Tour cards for the upcoming season.

About ten golfers with area ties attempted to qualify for the PGA Tour.
