A total of 136 players entered the 2012 West Penn Amateur to be conducted at The Kahkwa Club in Erie June 18-19. There are 26 players exempt from preliminary qualifying rounds, and 110 players will compete for the remaining 52 spots at five sites throughout the Association's jurisdiction.
The field is led by defending champion David Brown. Brown also won the 2004 championship at Nemacolin Contry Club. The field also includes Sean Knapp, a seven time champion and winner of the Pennsylvania Public Links Championship at Applecross Country Club and the West Penn Mid-Amateur Championship at Westmoreland Country Club earlier this year, won the first of his record six straight West Penn Amateur Championships at Kahkwa in 1998.
Arnold Palmer, Bob Reilly and Nathan Smith have all won four consecutive championships.
Rick Stimmel, the 1997 champion at the Pittsburgh Field, and three time West Penn Mid-Amateur Champion Arnold Cutrell are also in the field.
Preliminary qualifying rounds start June 6 at Champion Lakes Golf Resort.
