Golfers with local ties off to good starts on Tour

Golfers with area ties enjoyed a successful week in the Tour's season opening Panama Claro Championship at Panama City Golf Club. The event was held February 21-24.

Kevin Foley, a former Penn State University standout and winner of the 2009 Sunnehanna Amateur, won his first ever Web.Com title.

Steve Wheatcroft, formerly of Washington, and Brendan Todd, who learned to play at Rolling Hills CC in McMurray, both tied for 21st at 280 and made nearly $6000 each.

Wheatcroft, who won the 2004 West Penn Open, recorded 72-69-70-69, while Todd scored 68-69-69-74.

Todd and Wheatcroft both played on the PGA Tour in 2012 but did not retain their cards. Wheatcroft has played both the PGA Tour and Web.Com Tour, formerly the Nationwide Tour, since 2005. He was an All Big-Ten player at Indiana University. Todd enjoyed a strong collegiate career at the University of Georgia.
