Bob Allshouse & Arnold Cutrell with the Semple Brothers Trophy
Bob Allshouse and Arnold Cutrell forced a playoff with Dave Ruffaner and Rob Voltz in the Semple Brothers Century Foursomes Championship by making birdie on the 18th hole, and claimed the victory on the third extra hole. Both teams finished 7-over 147 at Allegheny Country Club. Allshouse and Cutrell shot rounds of 72-75 while Ruffaner and Voltz recorded 74-73.
Cutrell has now won 14 Association titles, tying him with William C. Fownes and Jack Benson. Earlier this month, Cutrell teamed with Frank Fairman to win the Fred Brand Foursomes Championship. He is the first player in Association history to win both foursomes events in the same year.
Only three golfers have won more WPGA championships than Cutrell. Sean Knapp has won 37, Nathan Smith 21 and Marshall Marraccini 16.
This was Allshouse's fifth victory in WPGA team competitions. He also won the Four-Ball Championship in 1974 and 1975 with Larry Smith, the 2004 Fred Brand with Dave DeNezza and the 2009 Semple Brothers with Mike McGuire. His career includes a fine collegiate record at Slippery Rock, and he has advanced to match play in three U.S. Senior Amateur Championships. The 39 years between his first and most recent WPGA titles is also an Association record.
Les Neilly and Ray Seemiller captured the Senior Division title by three shots over Tim Fitzgerald and Mark Studer on rounds of 82-77--159.
