Sean Knapp of Oakmont selected USGA qualifying sites in Maryland earlier this month for the U.S. Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Senior Open championships. He qualified for both last year at local sites but had to withdraw from the Amateur Public Links since the dates of the two championships overlapped.

In the Senior Open Sectional at Musket Ridge GC in Myersville, Knapp shot 69 to secure the second of three spots. The championship will be played at Omaha Country Club, Omaha, NE, July 11-14.

For the Amateur Public Links Sectional Qualifying Rounds at Clustered Spires GC in Fredericksburg, Knapp recorded 141 to qualify. The next to last Amateur Public Links will be contested at Laurel Hill GC, Lorton, VA, July 15-20.

The Senior Open and Amateur Public Links are relatively new for Knapp since he turned 50 last year and was first eligible for the Senior Open. He has been playing public golf for about five years after being a member Longue Vue Club for nearly twenty. Most of Knapp's extensive USGA championship experience has been in the Amateur and Mid-Amateur. He has recorded well over 30 appearances with highlights including a quarterfinal finish in the 1998 Amateur and a semi-final showing in the 2008 Mid-Amateur.
