Three advance in tour qualifying

Three golfers with area ties advanced to the Second Stage of the PGA Tour's Web.Com Tour Qualifying.

2013 PNC West Penn Open champion, Mike VanSickle, Wexford, advanced in Pinehurst, NC, Bridgeville's John Popeck qualified in Lakeland, FL. and Arnold Palmer's grandson, Sam Saunders, now of Fort Collins, CO, advanced in St. Augustine, FL.

VanSickle was the recipient of the 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 Frank Fuhrer, III Award for Collegiate Player of the Year. Popeck was given the award for the 2009-10 season.

Each must qualify from an upcoming second stage site to advance to the finals in Palm Springs, CA, in mid-December.

Five area golfers progressed through pre-qualifying but missed the cut in the first stage. Not advancing were 1999 and 2000 West Penn Junior Champion Bobby MacWhinnie, now residing in Charlotte, NC, former Penn State University golfer Anthony DeGol of Hollidaysburg, Dan Obremski, Irwin, 2010-11 Frank Fuhrer, III Award winner C.G. Mercatoris of Brookville and Erie's Drew Deimel.
