Roy Vucinich hits a shot in the PNC West Penn Open Championship

Five-time winner of the West Penn Open, Roy Vucinich, Moon Township, continues to play at a high level. He won the PGA of America's Senior Stroke Play Championship at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, January 13-15, for the 65-69 age group.

After opening with the field's lowest score of 64, Vucinich added 71-69 for 12-under pay total of 204 total. He edged Orlando's Freddy Gibson by one stroke.

A top notch player since the 1970's, Vucinich won the West Penn Open in 1977 at Sewickley Heights, 1978 at Alcoma, 1985 at South Hills, 1993 at Butler and 2005 at Oakmont. The 2005 Open win was at age 58 with 69-69--138. He is tied with Jock Hutchison and Greenburg's Perry DelVecchio with five Open titles, the most ever. Hutchison's wins took place 1909-15, while DelVecchio's titles occurred 1927-35. Vucinich's wins were in four different decades over 28 years.
