Stan Namola, Beaver, qualified last month for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in the area’s Sectional Qualifying at Lone Pone Country Club, Washington with 73.
The championship is being played at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis.

In his first round match against Mike Hughettt, Owasso, Okla, Namola lost in 19 holes. Hughett made a 10-foot putt to force extra holes, and then made a 25-foot birdie putt on the 19th hole to win the match.
Both Namola and Hughett were 1-over par in the match. Neither player was ever more than one-up.
Namola is only male golfer from the area to qualify for match play at USGA championship this year.
Katie Miller, Jeannette, advanced to the quarter-finals last week in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship last week at The Kahkwa Club in Erie.
Namola has played in WPGA championships for four decades. He has finished runner-up in the 1999 Mid-Amateur, 2003 Amateur, and this year’s Senior Amateur. He also won the 2016 Tri-State Open.
