1) What is the WPGA Scholarship Fund?
The WPGA Scholarship fund was started in
1941 as a fund to help caddies get through
college. In later years it was expanded to
all employees of WPGA member clubs. The
fund has helped over 600 students over the
years.

2) How do I donate to the WPGA
Scholarship Fund?
Donations are the life blood of the scholarship
fund. You can donate by mailing a check
made out to the WPGA Scholarship Fund to:
WPGA Scholarship
Fund
324 Fourth St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15238
3) Who is eligible?
Any person who has been employed by a WPGA
member club for at least two seasons and has not
completed his/her sophomore year in college is
eligible to apply for a scholarship. The
primary factors in determining who receives
scholarships are financial need, grades, rank in
class, board scores and outside activities.
4) When are applications
available?
Applications are usually available starting
September 1st. The application can be
found on the WPGA website and is mailed to all
general managers at WPGA Clubs.
5) When are applications due
and what is required?
Applications are due back by December 15.
If some parts of the application are not
attached, the student will be informed and will
have until January 15 to get the rest of the
materials to the committee. At least the
primary application must be submitted by
December 15. Other required items are:
- Completed
financial statement - this must be the
statement that comes with the application
- Transcripts
from High School and College. If the
student is already in college, we request
that they submit their first semester
transcript as soon as it is available
- Typed 500
word essay describing what the scholarship
would mean to the student
- Letter from
club manager - either the student's direct
manager or the general manager
- Letter from
either a high school or college
representative such as a teacher or guidance
counselor
6) What is the process once
I've applied?
Applicants will receive a letter shortly
after December 15 notifying them that their
application has been received and informing them
of any parts that are missing. Once all
applications are completed by January 15, they
will be evaluated and the applicants will be
informed by letter if they are to be
interviewed. Interviews are usually
scheduled for a Saturday in March at a local WPGA member club. Interviews are
approximately 30 minutes in length and are
conducted by a sub-committee of the WPGA
Scholarship Committee. Once the amount
available for scholarships is determined in
early April, applicants who were interviewed
will be informed of the determination of who
will receive scholarships
7) How many scholarships are
available?
The WPGA Executive Committee has determined
that approximately 6% of the Scholarship Fund as
of March 31st will be allocated each year for
scholarships. In 2006-2007 this resulted
in 12 scholarships being granted, including 4
new ones. Each scholarship is currently
for $3000.00. There is no guarantee that
the value or number of scholarships will remain
the same as it is dependent on both investments
and donations. Scholarships are granted
for 1 year at a time and are renewable through
the students Senior year.
8) Once I've received a
scholarship how is it paid?
Scholarships are paid directly to the school
for tuition. 50% of the annual scholarship is paid for each semester. In
order to pay the scholarship, the student must
submit an invoice from the school.
9) What are the requirements
for keeping the scholarship?
Students must maintain an 2.8 GPA to
continue receiving a scholarship. Any
student who falls below that mark will lose
their scholarship until they have brought their
GPA back to the 2.8 mark. Students must
submit a copy of their transcript with their
fall tuition invoice in order to continue to
receive their scholarship.
10) Do
I have to be a golfer to get a scholarship?
No. Golfing ability is not considered
in determining the recipients of the WPGA
Scholarship?
11) What is the
relationship between the WPGA and Evans
scholarships?
The WPGA and
Evans scholarships are separate programs.
The WPGA and Evans programs have a agreement to
co-sponsor one scholarship in any four-year
period. Students who have applied for the
Evans scholarship should also consider applying
for a WPGA scholarship.
