Edgewood Country Club will host Tuesday’s 63rd U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Qualifying round, as players will look to advance to the national championship this September.

A dozen players will compete Tuesday, with three spots in the U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur up for grabs. Two alternate positions will be earned, as well.

The 63rd U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship will be held September 13-18 at The Omni Homestead Resort’s Cascades Course in Hot Springs, Va.

Highlighting Tuesday’s field will be one of the most decorated women’s amateur golfers of all-time, Carol Semple Thompson.

The Sewickley native won the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur four straight years in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.

She also claimed the 1973 U.S. Women’s Amateur, has won two U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships and has played on the United States’ Curtis Cup team more than any other player in history.

The recipient of the 2003 Bob Jones Award — the highest honor presented by the USGA — and a 2008 inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Semple Thompson will tee off at 8:00 a.m. in the first group.

She will play alongside Kathryn Katawczik and Theresa Stotler.

A year ago, Stephanie Urban claimed medalist honors at Ligonier Country Club in the same qualifying event. She will tee off in the final group at 8:30 a.m. with Karen Rainey and Danielle Proctor.

The two other groups will include Randi Lichtenstein, Gretchen Gordon and Jane Wymer in one, and Stefani Markovich, Sally Sheerer and Allison Ballard in another.

Edgewood Country Club, one of the WPGA’s five founding clubs, will be set for players at 5,646 yards and with par at 71.
