About

The 17th hole at Sunnehanna Country Club, host of the Sunnehanna Amateur.

Mission Statement: To advance the interests and spirit of the game of golf and to encourage a spirit of harmony and cooperation among golf clubs and other related associations. Primary activities include the administration of the Rules of Handicapping, educational programs for members and club employees, the sharing of information and the conduct of championships.

Founded in 1899, the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association is one of the oldest golf associations in the country and the steward of amateur golf in the region. Started by five Member Clubs, the association now has over 200 Member Clubs and 35,000 members.

To conduct daily business, the WPGA employees a full-time staff with offices in the historic Allegheny West district in the North Side of Pittsburgh that is also home to the Western Pennsylvania Golf Hall of Fame.

Our primary missions are championships, handicapping and course rating, and member services. We also administer the WPGA Scholarship Fund to provide tuition assistance to employees of our Member Clubs. Educational programs are offered yearly to our growing membership in a variety of areas and formats.

The affairs and property of the Association are directed by a Board of Directors composed of members from our Member Clubs, and we are supported by many volunteers.

Volunteers make the WPGA run

Thank you to all of the volunteers who assist the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association in the many areas you serve. Our volunteers help us conduct championships and qualifying rounds, rate golf courses, and perform many other tasks. Without you, we could not perform our mission.

If you would like to volunteer as a tournament official or course rater, please contact us.
