VERONA — The WPGA begins its August competition schedule with the 36th Jamison Cup and Inaugural Women’s Inter-Club finals Monday at Green Oaks Country Club.

Honoring Thomas Jamison, a key figure in Western Pennsylvania golf as a founder of Hannastown Golf Club and longtime Oakmont member, the Jamison Cup brings together WPGA Member Clubs each year for Inter-Club competition.

This year, four clubs will compete in the Jamison Cup in three-time defending champion Connoquenessing Country Club, Sewickley Heights, Oakmont Country Club and Green Oaks Country Club.

The Jamison Cup features a team and an individual champion. The competition is 18 holes of gross stroke play with each team’s top three of four scores counting for the team per round.

While the Jamison Cup enters its 36th year, the WPGA will have women compete concurrently for the first time.

The WPGA continued its expansion of women’s golf competitions with the announcement of the addition of the Inaugural Women's Inter-Club Finals earlier this summer.

This new, team event features six local clubs, following the success of the Women's Triple Play Event, launched in 2024. Last Monday, the WPGA hosted a Women’s Mid- Amateur Championship to its usual Amateur Championship, adding another age tier for the WPGA’s top women’s amateur event.

“The addition of multiple competitions for women and junior girls in our region over these last two years will have a considerable impact on the growth of the game in our region and beyond,” said WPGA Board of Directors president Carol Onufro. “We look forward to helping continue that development of the sport for females not only throughout the rest of the 2025 competition season, but in years to come.”

Clubs represented in the Inaugural Women’s Inter-Club Finals will be Diamond Run Golf Club, Oakmont Country Club, Sewickley Heights Golf Club, Allegheny Country Club, Longue Vue Club and Westmoreland Country Club.

The championship follows an 18-hole Gross Stableford Stroke Play format. The teams will consist of six players, with the top four scores from each team per hole counting towards the team score.

Inter-Club competition and league play have been integral to the WPGA's history since the early 1900s. The Diebold League, for example, is one of the region’s oldest leagues, and includes teams from Fox Chapel Golf Club, Longue Vue Club, Oakmont Country Club, and Pittsburgh Field Club.

Play will begin Monday at 8:00 a.m.
