BEALLSVILLE — Ten players earned spots in the 41st WPGA Mid-Amateur Championship during Wednesday’s qualifying round at Nemacolin Country Club.
Cole Davis and Mitch Faulkner led the field, each posting 2-over scores of 72 to share the top spot on the leaderboard.
Davis, a member at Kittanning Country Club, recorded three birdies during his round. After making the turn at an even par score of 36, he added a birdie on hole 12 on his way to a 72.
Faulkner, of Pine Acres Golf, totaled four birdies, including consecutive birdies on holes nine and 10. He had a 1-under 35 on the front nine before finishing alongside Davis at 2-over.
Evan Bair and Tyler Eckert finished one stroke behind the leaders, each shooting 3-over scores of 73.
Six players finished tied at 4-over 74 to secure the remaining qualifying spots. Chase Miller, Brian DePaul, Tyler Vallano, Ryder Grignol, Nolan Tisch and Mike Marron all advanced to the championship.
Three additional players earned alternate positions following the qualifying round.
The final Mid-Amateur qualifying round is scheduled for August 20 at Totteridge Golf Course.
The 41st WPGA Mid-Amateur Championship will be contested on September 8 at Fox Chapel Golf Club.
The WPGA Mid-Amateur Championship was developed in 1985 and has celebrated over four decades of strong competition for Western Pennsylvania golfers ages 25 and over.
