NEW CASTLE — Avalon FIeld Club at New Castle will host Monday’s 10th WPGA Net Championship.

The event is the WPGA’s largest championship for Net players — designed to invite participants of varying skillsets into competitive play.

Started in 2017, the WPGA Net and Women’s Net Championships have become a favorite in the West Penn golf schedule, as players compete against similar caliber opponents based on Handicap Index®.

The competition format is 18 holes of Net Stableford Stroke Play. Flights, with affiliated handicap indexes, are set as follows:

• John Moorhead Jr. Flight: 5.5 to 8.5

• Joseph Oliver Flight: 8.6 to 12.9

• Joseph Shea Flight: 13.0 to 25.0

• Jeannette Nicholson Price Flight (Women’s Flight): 5.5 and up

A year ago, at Chartiers Country Club, local sports radio personality Chris Mueller claimed the Richard Falchetti Trophy, awarded to the tournament’s top overall performer.

Marcy Smorey took home the Women’s Net title, with Jarod Hartman, Jeff Jeglinski and Dave Bryant winning flights, as well.

Mueller will compete Monday, as he will be in the first group to begin play at 8:30 a.m. Smorey and Bryant will also compete Monday.

The WPGA will welcome a total of 72 golfers to The Avalon Club at New Castle.

Starting times begin at 8:30 a.m., with tee times ending at 10:20 p.m.
