LATROBE — The first of three WPGA Amateur Championship qualifying rounds is set for Wednesday at Latrobe Elks Golf Club.

31 players are set to compete in the single qualifying round, with 11 spots and two alternate positions up for grabs for this year’s West Penn Am.

The 126th WPGA Amateur Championship is scheduled for June 8-9 at The Kahkwa Club in Erie.

Two more qualifying rounds are scheduled for this spring, with rounds on May 7 at Willowbrook Country Club and May 14 at Lawrence Park Golf Club.

Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. from both the first and 10th tees.

Among those in the field will be three-time WPGA Amateur Champion David Brown, who claimed the W.C. Fownes Trophy in 2004, 2011 and 2013.

Now in its 126th year, the WPGA Amateur Championship dates back to the Association’s first year, 1899, and is one of the oldest regional amateur championships in the country.

The Kahkwa Club, which will host the West Penn Am, has also hosted several USGA national championships throughout its history.

The WPGA utilizes three qualifying rounds to round out the field, with qualifying players joining exempt players for the 54-hole, two-day major championship.
