GREENSBURG — Hannastown Golf Club will welcome junior boys and girls golfers Wednesday and Thursday for the 52nd WPGA C.R. Miller Memorial Match Play and 7th WPGA Girls' Match Play Invitationals.
The invitational events feature top-ranked junior golfers from Western Pennsylvania, who compete in multi-round match play competitions.
The C.R. Miller event begins with the Round of 16 Wednesday morning, followed by Quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon. Semifinals and Championship matches will be contested Thursday morning and afternoon. Each round will consist of 18 holes of match play.
The Girls' Match Play Invitational will follow a similar format, but will begin at the Quarterfinal stage Wednesday afternoon.
The C.R. Miller has a rich history in the region. 52 years ago, Ritchie Miller established a match play competition for local junior golfers as a way of honoring his father, Charles R. Miller.
Now, more than five decades later, the C.R. Miller Memorial Match Play Invitational has become one of Western Pennsylvania’s marquee events for top junior players.
Wednesday, the competition heads to Hannastown for the third time ever, where the Pressly T. Craig Bowl will be up for grabs. Wes Warden won the C.R. Miller at Hannastown in 2021, the first of two consecutive victories in the contest. Justin Smith won at Hannastown in 1999.
Through the years, many of the top players in the region have competed for — and won — the C.R. Miller Memorial.
Most notably, recent Notre Dame graduate Palmer Jackson won the event three times, becoming the only player to do so. But Jackson is far from alone when it comes to premier players to win the C.R. Miller.
Before becoming a professional, Nathan Smith took home the C.R. Miller Miller in 1995 at Allegheny Country Club. Justin Smith, prior to playing at and becoming the head coach at the University of Minnesota and earning a spot in the school’s Hall of Fame, won the Pressly T. Craig Bowl in 1998, the first of his two wins.
Participants in this year’s C.R. Miller Match Play will be Carson Kittsley, Max Pirain, Nico Ward, Alex Talmadge, Camden Reyes, Alex Avi, Ravi Desai, Michael Quallich, Jack Sacriponte, Barron Bitar, Bailey Donahue, Patrick Mahoney, Niko Ameredes, Rocco Bautti, Max Mottura, Trey Susa.
Kittsley and Reyes have each won WPGA major championships in 2026, with Kittsley becoming the youngest winner of the West Penn Amateur Championship and Reyes claiming the WPGA Junior Championship in June. Quallich took the 2025 WPGA Junior Championship.
Kittsley, Quallich, Ward, Sacripoonte and Donahue are all members of Team Pennsylvania.
Started in 2018, the WPGA Girls’ Match Play Invitational has brought together some of the top junior girls talent in the region for match play.
Caroline Wrigley claimed the first Girls’ Match Play Invitational.
Ligini Ranaweera won at Hannastown Golf Club in 2021, the only year the club has welcomed the Girls’ Match Play.
In 2025, Sophia Severns defeated Mya Morgan in the final round to take home her first title.
This year, the Girls’ Match Play field will feature eight players in Morgan, Annie Higgins, Brooke Kline, Elise Wadas, Olivia DeGori, Siena Smith, Makenna Kamnikar and Adalena Robb.
Morgan is the two-time reigning WPGA Girls’ Junior Player of the Year. She is also a member of Team Pennsylvania.
