JOHNSTOWN — A new chapter in WPGA championship golf begins Monday as Sunnehanna Country Club hosts the Inaugural WPGA Mixed Championship.
The championship will feature teams consisting of one male and one female golfer competing over 18 holes of gross four-ball stroke play, with a Net Division also being contested.
“We are thrilled to once again expand our playing opportunities for competitive golfers in the region with the addition of the WPGA Mixed Championship,” said Terry Teasdale, executive director of the WPGA. “This event provides a new, unique format for players, and we thank Sunnehanna Country Club for its willingness to host the championship.”
The inaugural event brings together 48 teams from across the region, providing a new opportunity for mixed teams to compete for a WPGA championship.
Competition will begin with a 12:00 p.m. shotgun start. The field features several accomplished amateur golfers, along with a mix of husband and wife teams, family pairings and longtime playing partners.
The four-ball format allows each player to play their own ball throughout the round, with the lower of the two scores counting as the team's score on each hole.
The competition will feature both a Division and a Net Division.
This is the third straight year that the WPGA has added a competition to its yearly schedule.
In 2024, the Women’s Triple Play Tournament debuted, adding a team event for women. A year later, the Women’s Inter-Club Finals, which were contested this past Tuesday, made its debut. Additionally, the WPGA expanded its Women’s Amateur Championships in 2025 to include a Mid-Amateur division.
