APOLLO — The second of three WPGA Amateur Championship qualifying rounds is set for Thursday at Willowbrook Country Club.

78 players are set to compete in the single qualifying round, with 26 spots and three alternate positions up for grabs for this year’s West Penn Am.

The 126th WPGA Amateur Championship is scheduled for June 8-9 at The Kahkwa Club in Erie.

One more qualifying round is set for this spring, on May 14 at Lawrence Park Golf Club. Wade Boyle led the pack in the first WPGA Amateur qualifying round on April 22 at Latrobe Elks Golf Club.

On Thursday, play will begin at 8 a.m. from both the first and 10th tees, with the final starting time at 10 a.m.

Among those in the field will be 2024 WPGA Boys Championship winner Aaron Didjunas, who will begin play off of the first tee at 8 a.m.

2025 WPGA Williamson Cup team member Ty Hartman will compete at 8:40 a.m. Team Pennsylvania team members Jack Sacriponte and Nico Ward will be in the final groups to tee off.

Several other accomplished amateur players will look to punch their ticket to the region’s premier amateur competition.

Now in its 126th year, the WPGA Amateur Championship dates back to the Association’s first year, 1899, and is one of the oldest regional amateur championships in the country.

The Kahkwa Club, which will host the West Penn Am, has also hosted several USGA national championships throughout its history.

The WPGA utilizes three qualifying rounds to round out the field, with qualifying players joining exempt players for the 54-hole, two-day major championship.
